Of these infected individuals, an estimated 18.2 million (or 49.6%) were accessing antiretroviral therapy (ART) by mid- 2016. The global annual rate of new HIV infections was estimated at 2.1 million (or 5.7% of total) in 2015, with 1.1 million AIDS-related deaths (or 2.9% of total) in the same year
